In almost any gaming or workstation build the value is concentrated. The graphics card is usually worth more than everything else combined and has the most liquid used market. The CPU is second, but its value depends heavily on whether its socket is still current. Motherboards, memory, storage, cases and coolers are all thinner than people expect. Get the graphics card and CPU right and you are most of the way to an accurate number.
Treat the defaults as a starting point, not a rule. A current graphics card in an old build carries a larger share, and a system with no dedicated GPU pushes value onto the CPU and board. Common questions
How do I work out what each part in a PC is worth?
Start from what the whole PC sells for, then split that total across the components by how much of the value each one carries. The graphics card and CPU hold most of it, so give them the largest share and keep the rest thin. This calculator does that split for you from a default weighting you can adjust.
Are the default percentages accurate for every PC?
They are a sensible starting point for a typical used gaming or workstation build, not a fixed rule. A current graphics card in an otherwise old system carries more than 40 percent, while a machine with no dedicated GPU shifts value onto the CPU and motherboard. Adjust the sliders to match the actual parts, and check recent sold prices for the two or three components that matter most.
Should I sell the PC whole or part it out?
Part out when one component, usually the graphics card, is worth more than the rest combined, or when the parts are mismatched. Sell whole when the build is coherent and mid-range, because whole-system buyers pay for a machine that already works. Total the part values here, subtract selling fees and your time, and compare that to what comparable whole systems actually sold for.
